Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNS)

BNS is a three-year, academic course designed by Pokhara University to meet the challenges of the health care system of the 21 st century. The mission of the program is to produce the specialist graduates on Geriatric, Psychiatric and Oncology nursing to meet the health need of growing proportion of elderly population/mentally ill and people suffering from cancer.

Objectives of BNS

• Utilize evidence-based nursing practice in terms of providing preventive, promotive, and therapeutic nursing care to individuals, groups, families and communities.
•Gain nursing knowledge and the practical skills in the different elective subjects.
• Offer nursing care to patients with a range of age groups and a variety of physical and mental health issues competently.
•Develop intellectual ability and managerial skill in student through clinical practicum and other basic science courses.
•Develop positive attitude and nursing qualities required for nursing leadership and managerial functions.
•Develop skills in conducting research studies of different problems related to health and nursing.

Scope & Career Prospects of BNS

BNS graduates can work as registered nurses in hospitals, clinics, and specialized care units, as well as in INGOs/NGO’s or pursue roles in community health, research, and nursing administration. Graduates can pursue careers in academia as nursing educators, teaching in nursing colleges, training institutes, and universities. Apart from this Graduates with entrepreneurial aspirations can establish their own healthcare-related businesses, such as nursing consultancy, home healthcare services, or healthcare training centers. The BNS program at Pokhara University provides access to specialization in nursing specialties like oncology, psychiatry, and geriatric nursing. Nurses with specialization have better job prospects in national and international. BNS graduates can explore opportunities of abroad, advance into leadership positions, or further their education with postgraduate studies.
