Masters of Pharmaceutical Sciences (M. Pharm.)

Masters of Pharmaceutical Sciences (M. Pharm.)  is a post-graduate course that can be pursued by a graduate after the completion of an undergraduate degree in the pharmaceutical field.

M. Pharm. course duration is 2 year which has 4 semesters including thesis research work. In depth knowledge of pharmacy is provided in the M. Pharm. course. M Pharm. is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in various areas of pharmaceutical sciences. Curriculum includes subjects like Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance, Instrumental Analysis, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, Research Methodology and Applied Statistics, Applied therapeutics, Clinical skills for Pharmacists, Hospital and Community Pharmacy, Pharmacovigilance and Health system Pharmacy, etc.

Master of Pharmacy course deals with analyzing, testing, data interpreting and researching of drugs for the treatment of the diseases of human kind. An increased requirement of number of quality professionals in clinical pharmacy makes this course demanding in pharmaceutical field.

The Master of Pharmacy curriculum often includes a combination of theoretical lectures, laboratory work, research projects, and practical training.

Objectives of M.Pharm.

•Produce clinical pharmacists capable of providing specialized pharmaceutical services in hospital and other clinical environments.
•Choose various specialized areas by the graduates to become a Pharmacotherapy specialist, based upon their area of interest during their clerkships in hospital.
• Apply the basic pharmacological knowledge in the prevention and treatment of various diseases.
•Produce confident and knowledgeable pharmacists to work with other health care professionals.
•Understand the basic concepts, pre-clinical trials, design of clinical trials and new drug discovery process.
•To enhance the pharmacists’ role as a member of the healthcare team by improving their communication, managerial, clinical and research skills.

Scope & Career Prospects of M.Pharm.

The role of pharmacists is expanding day by day on one hand and on the other; the number of specialist pharmacists in Nepal is quite limited. Therefore, there is an ample employment opportunity for the specialist pharmacists in Nepal and abroad. In general, pharmacists can choose the following areas for their career development:
